35 Things I Know
a birthday post
Today I turn 35. It feels monumental, milestone-y, and worthy of note. It also feels like any other day of life. Mundane. I suppose that’s where most things usually land.
In honor of circling the sun one more time, I’ve decided to make last year’s birthday PDW post a tradition. So here are 35 things I know to be true. Some are profound. Some are not. But I suppose that’s where most things usually land.
Onward -
Being sleep-deprived, hungry, or thirsty is a pressure cooker for bad decision making.
The grown-ups are not coming to save us. We are them.
In the end, people are the only thing that matter.
Complaining makes someone instantly less appealing.
We are meant to eat fruits and veggies. Lots of them.
The fastest route to magic is to create something with other people.
Postponing joy only makes us sick and bitter.
Taking on financial debt is like putting handcuffs on your future self.
Time really is the great healer.
It takes an infinitesimal amount of effort to make someone feel seen.
Important tasks should be done first thing in the day.
Friendship is vitally important to life. Make the effort to text, call, and see your people.
Clean your house. You’ll feel better.
Judging other people’s tastes means you lack an interesting interior life.
Our bodies are designed to move every single day.
This problem won’t matter when you’re on your deathbed.
If you look for beauty, you will find it. Every time.
People don’t want advice; they want to be held.
After age 25, do not ask your friends to help you move.
Ignoring problems is not the same as solving problems.
Pay yourself first, with money and time, before anyone/anything else.
Our lives indoors are keeping us unwell.
If they don’t have to live with the consequences, they don’t get to have an opinion.
Anything worth building is made up of boring daily habits.
If anyone claims to know the will of god, they are either delusional or evil but always dangerous.
Constipation and diarrhea are not normal. Figure out what’s wrong and fix it.
Silence is the scariest and most fruitful gift.
Just because you’re offended, doesn’t mean you’re right.
Being human is the hardest thing any of us will ever do.
Good things take a long time.
Sometimes money will fix the problem.
Good enough is good enough.
The path toward god is paved with pleasure, not deprivation.
If we got curious instead of angry, we could solve the biggest problems facing humanity.
Our purpose here is to explore as much of ourselves and this floating rock as possible.

Precious and hard-won nuggets. I love the stimulation of considering them all.
#2 tho… ouch!!
Happy birthday!!!
