The Bird
common words
Birdie: a poem
Oh Birdie, my Birdie,
what gentle soul
poured into the furriest
funniest shape.
A snooze and stroll,
with kibble and pets,
a bone and bed
are all you demand.
The leash on your back
(with harness, of course)
pales to the leash
tethered ‘round my heart.
We look as we do,
eye meeting eye,
soul meeting soul,
and know. Just know.
Clichés abound when
it comes to you pets.
A love so immense
must fall on common words.
Instead I’ll say
what I utter each morn.
Thank you
for being here.
