There's no better imagery for a work in process prject as a monkey barely in a diaper. I can't wait to read your manuscript in the meantime enjoy the night drive.

Thanks friend! It's scary out in these streets!

Were you reading my mind when you wrote this? I've been wondering how the book is coming along, AND I've been reading more books on writing/creativity. And yes, DO read Bird by Bird, by the way.

Perhaps I was reading your mind! I read Bird by Bird maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I'm thinking it might be time to dust it off again. Any other good recommendations?

When I was young a fellow musician told me he had these fully-realized symphonies in his head. And he wished he could just plug his head into a recorder to capture them. I thought because of this small conversation that all music needed to come out fully formed. It hindered my writing for years. Now I just find a sound or instrument or technique that inspires me and try to follow the thread. I love the headlights analogy.

Yeah I hear about writers having whole short stories or poems flow out of them fully formed. I think the vast majority of us just plug away at our craft like Santa's little elves. It sounds like you really follow your curiosity which is one of the most fruitful things to follow!

As I was reading the paragraph about researching agents, I thought wow that’s a good thing to do as a break from writing. Then I continued reading and your analogy of the monkey was so clear!! I don’t think I could ever write! Even though I like to. Almost as much as I like procrastinating! lol

Ha! I'm sure there are a myriad of ways for you to procrastinate!
